These two are from near my home.
By the way, I cannot in good faith take any credit for framing any of these pictures. Typically, my photo opportunities come when I least expect them, and I take them leaning out of the truck, holding my camera with one hand, screaming as my hot coffee goes down my lap, the wife grabbing the steering wheel just before we plunge into a river, and I snap the shutter, hoping the camera is at least pointed towards the subject, and maybe, for once, I remembered to put a memory card in the camera.
An elegant photographer, I ain't.

Lame Duck
In the winter, the elk here in Montana typically move out of the mountains to lower elevations where it's easier to find food.
The Sun River Game Range near Augusta is set aside as winter game range and about 2000 elk winter in there. On a sunny day, there will be hundreds, probably over a thousand at times, that can be seen. No-one is allowed in the game range from Dec first until May 15, but you can watch them from the road, about 2 miles away. It's quite a sight.
Another game range, The Beartooth, between Helena and Great Falls and east of the town of Wolf Creek is a similar situation.

Very nice shots of these two bucks, Teton!

It's amazing, the amount of elk in this herd. I never knew their herds could be so big.

Nice sharp close-up of this coot, fotoi! The colors in the water are beautiful.

Terrific capture, Tom! Beautifully composed.

I agree with you, Teton. Very nice capture!

Thank you, Mike!

This grizzly was on the Kananaskis Highway. I think we should radio collar and ear tag biologists and just observe the bears.

I totally agree with your statement. Your photo does show the awfulness of tagging animals.

You're definitely getting close to these masked bandits, to be able to shoot them with a 50mm lens, Paul. Very nice shot!
