Going to St Marks NWR this weekend with my new 100-400mm L II. Understand this is one of the best birding places in the Southeast US. Anyone with recent experience at this NWR is invited to suggest particular spots such as eagle nesting sites.

I had never even heard of St Marks NWR until I came across this thread. . Thanks for the tip - I am excited to learn of more bird places in Florida that I can check out next time I go there. .

I'm interested in knowing how your trip went, and would love to hear any details about which species you saw and what the photographic opportunities were like.

And yes, folks, I realize this thread is almost a year old ..... but why would that matter? . Good info for bird locations is usually valid for many, many years.

"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I have never heard of this place either and I go to Florida every year for a week, exclusively for bird photography. Maybe it's a secret gem that no one on the internet speak of in order to keep it to themselves. :-)

Hopefully, someone here has some first-hand knowledge they would be willing to share.

It has been many years since I was there, but it really is a great birding location. I found bald eagles in several places and lots of hawks throughout the refuge. There is an area of trees that is supposed to be good for songbirds, but I didn't have time to spend there so I can't comment on that.

It is definitely a place to visit if you are in the panhandle.
