If a pure white background is wanted it can't be overexposed!

to much light will blow out white backgrounds, therefore blowing out parts of the hair, so yes backgrounds can be over exposed.

I was going for a pure white background and this was actually one of my test shots with my wife standing in while I dialed in the settings before the model arrived. I'm partial to her smile on this shot but that's just a personal thing. A light meter is needed for sure.

I expose the background til it goes red in the middle with histogram (no subject in the frame), I then put a subject in the frame with a white towel over the face and do the same thing. This is after I ballpark with a meter. keeping the background as close to 256 around the head, letting the rest of the BG go under exposed, then increasing the under exposed parts in post processing. I can post some samples later tonight if you are interested.

That would be great and very much appreciated. Thanks for the critique and help.
