BT3 boiler technician 3rd class (e-4) on a DE Destroyer Escort (306' long typically with a three, open mount 3" gun on the foredeck but with lots of depth charges. see The Enemy Below with Robert Mitchum and Kurt Juegens) and then on an APD Transport-Destroyer (high speed transport which was a DE hull with troop berthing for up to 160 Marine raiders, Underwater Demolition Teams or other troops and 4 landing craft, replacing the two after mount 3" guns and the forward 3" being replaced with a 5" gun)

Well I did ask ;-)a

Thank you Dave. We ex crabfats aren't very well up on what you ex fisheads call things

There's some very sleek boats in those photos. At one stage when I was in the R.A.F. there was a very strong rumour floating around that the aircraft ground crew trades were going to be spending time on aircraft carriers so as to familiarise jobs across the services. I wouldn't have minded spending a few months on a floating airfield?

The initials I used are the ranks I floated up through in my time in the mob.

Two boats and a ship
Near Pattaya, Thailand
Interesting name for the ship. Majuro is in the Marshall Islands They have a floating stage to unload into barges like I saw in Vietnam
The boats look really small compared to the ship and the floating crane.

Interesting pic Brian. I just thought I would check the details of this ship - it looks rather long. Here is an extract from the MarineTraffic website.

Where is the ship?
Self Discharging Bulk Carrier WALTER J.MCCARTHY JR. is currently located at GLAKES - Lake Michigan at position 44° 50' 16.692" N, 87° 23' 5.748" W as reported by MarineTraffic Terrestrial Automatic Identification System on 22-01-2021 14:27 MyT UTC (24 days, 19 hours ago)

Where is this vessel going to?
The vessel is currently at port STURGEON BAY, US after a voyage of 2 days, 10 hours originating from port GARY HARBOR, US.

What kind of ship is this?
WALTER J.MCCARTHY JR. (IMO: 7514684) is a Self Discharging Bulk Carrier that was built in 1977 (44 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of USA.

It’s carrying capacity is 92076 t DWT and her current draught is reported to be 7 meters.

yes, it is one of the 1000 feet ships that sails the great lakes, and even with that it is not the biggest, it is tough to get a picture of them them shows their enormous size as a wider angle lens is needed, they are impressive to see in person

Lots of history in this picture my father took in 1945. That's my mother and I sitting in a rowboat my father had built when he was a teenager. And the motorboat -- it had been built to smuggle spirits in the Gulf of Finland, and Father had had an opportunity to buy it after the prohibition had ended and the original owners had no further use for it. After Father sold it, it served as a water taxi, and in its latest years as a mail carrier on the lake.

I don't know anything. But I know other things.
