Common buzzard in snow

With these close encounters , is where the silent shutter really shines.:-)

I love your shots, they always seem so sharp and clear.

Amusing note:

I love taking pictures of birds, but am not a "birder" and in fact struggle most times to find an identification of the birds in my pictures.

As I live in North America, I was puzzled by your identification of what I would have called a Hawk as a Buzzard. I knew that you would not have made such a drastic mistake so google is my friend. I now know why and where these terms are used and as usual, we here in North America seem to be slightly out of step with the rest of the world. LOL!

Thanks for the post and for the opportunity to learn my new thing for the day.

First off all ,thanks for the complements.

I' ll think what you called in America a red tailed hawk, looks a lot on what they call in europe a buzzard.

Beautiful shot Weja. In Europe, "buzzard" is used for members of the genus Buteo, which includes our Re-tailed Hawk. The Rough-legged Hawk in North American field guides is the same bird a the Rough-legged Buzzard in European guides. To add to the confusion some people in the US use buzzard to refer to vultures (and occasionally to cantankerous old men).

Took my daughter to one of the local zoos over the long weekend. The weather was great so the animals seemed to be a little more active which was nice
