Canon 50D, Sears 135mm

I love my 50D.
But we are all just human and when we have something more convenient, we quickly get used to it and the old stuff seems not usable anymore.
I use a 6D Mark II now most of the time.

But the old 50D still can catch a swallow in flight equipped with the Sigma 150-600mm

Anyone still rocking the 50D? I took these from my front yard this past September. A small brush fire started up only about half a mile from my house. These guys put it out quickly. No houses lost and no damage done. There's a pond near my house where the helicopter picked up water from. He and the other helicopter on the job came in so low they rattled my windows. Lots of noise. Cool to watch though.

I sold mine 2019 year to get the 7D just to realise that the image quality is worse.

Now I decided to just get the best

I've got my eye on the 7D2 and on the 6D2. Haven't decided between the two yet. I'm leaning toward 6D2 for full frame and swivel screen but not sure yet. My next major purchase will be a new laptop since my almost 9 year old computer isn't doing too well. For that reason, a new camera is a little ways down the road yet.

I own both.
The 6D Mark II has the better image quality for landscapes and high ISO wildlife images.

The speed and the autofocus accuracy of the 7D Mark II is another class!
And the extended reach and resolution of the crop sensor you can not match with the full frame.

The 7D Mark II has an really sharp image. The older 7D was way worse, kinda too soft! And the High ISO ist top notch for its class; the old 7D had a very ugly high ISO pattern very difficult to mask in Lightroom. The Mark II has very fine grain and less color noise.

When you are not shooting ISO 6400 all the time, I would consider the 7D Mark II for sports and wildlife and the 6D Mark II for portrait photography.

For landscape you better take a Nikon Z5, Z6 ...
All the mentioned Canon cameras has far less dynamic range and even banding when you shoot sunsets and want to relight the foreground!

I can only really afford one new camera at a time lol (and not before I replace my almost 9 year old laptop). The 6D2 has my eye for high ISO performance and swiveling screen. Will the 7D2 at least fair better against my 50D for noise performance? Most of the time, due to life with 3 small children, I can only ever make it out for some wildlife photography in the evening as the sun is going down. For a lens as slow as a Tamron 150-600mm, I tend to have to keep the ISO turned up a little bit to get enough light (not too much over ISO 640 generally). My 50D does ok but obviously, better is better.

Anyone upgrading their 2008 50D for a 2021 R10?

The 7D Mark II has very good high ISO. It's visibly better than the 50D which has banding from ISO 3200 upwards.
The 7D Mark II is much better than the 7D as well with fine grain of noise on the 7D Mark II vs very blocky grain on the 7D.

Somewhere I read a review where the 7D Mark II outperformed the newer 80D.

The 7D Mark II is a real upgrade over the 50D.

R10 is a Rebel quality camera massively overpriced with a small battery. No thank you Canon! Lower the price to 599€ where ist belongs and then we can talk....

I'm leaning toward the 7D2 based on what you say. We just moved last year and don't have the cash to drop on a camera right now but some day!

I have such an attachment to the 50D. Even though I "retired" it in 2015 when I got my 7D mark II, I still own it and use it regularly at work. It is my most used camera of all time with more than 100k actuations - which is a lot for me and beats my 7D2, 5D4, and R5 combined.

Had no problems selling 32" wide prints regularly. Even sold a handful of 40" x 60" images with it. It's that you use a camera that is more important than what camera you use. Not trying to stir up a debate - just have a camera, use a camera, and be happy.

True the 500mm is a beast of a lens. The images from it are wonderful on any camera.

The thing is, it must still be growing. It weighs more every year!

This thread got me kind of nostalgic so I did these quick snaps today with "cheap" lenses.

First one is with the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM with 36mm extension tube

The sensor is as good as I remember!
