If you have Full Frame, did you still keep your Crop Body?

Does anyone else keep their camera for sentimental reasons? I still have my canon 350D, my first dslr and a gift from my father. I’m now using a 6D and an A7ii.

I have kept one camera for sentimental reasons ..... the Nikon FE that my Dad bought for me back when I was in Jr. High school in the early 1980s. . I cannot imagine selling something that meant so much to me at one time.

None of the other cameras I have owned have any sentimental value to me. . I get extremely attached to the photos I take, but form no emotional attachment at all with the cameras or lenses that I use to take them.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I've been re-collecting cameras I've owned in the past. However, three are still too expensive even used for me to put that much money into: The Topcon Super DM, the Mamiya C330, and the Mamiya RZ67.

I guess I have done that with my 1D MkII (other than film based cameras, those are all sentimental at this stage)
Given it's resale value, I simply refuse to part with it at that price.
I am sure I have taken more photos with that camera than most everything since,./ combined.

I have noticed prices have been rising on a lot of my old film cameras, I sold some of mine to finance new cameras and lenses but I still have probably upwards of 100 cameras. I have thought about adding back certain ones I have sold but not all of them.

I felt tempted to keep my 5D3, but then I was offered € 500 for it, which was even more tempting.

Nope. I have fond memories of my favorites but in the end, cameras are tools and nothing more.

The only camera I have sold is a Canon 30D. I still have, and shoot, my 40D. I like the classic-style, digital images that the 40D can provide over that of my new Canon 5D4 at times.

It is always good to keep two camera bodies--at least have one for back-up. It is also fun to mix and match different bodies with different lenses just to see what of end result images you can get.

Now an even more crazier question to ask. If you have a digital SLR camera, do you still keep your old film SLR camera?

The last crop camera I used was my Sony A6300. Its shutter box died after 300,000 actuations. I've thought about buying another, or having the 6300's shutter replaced. Today I went and shot a baseball game - dang it was awesome to be shooting outside again. And I absolutely miss having a crop body. I miss the extra reach of a crop. I used a TC today - and didn't like it. Since most of my glass is still Canon, I've started looking for a used Canon body.

For what I do, the extra bokeh isn't materially as important to me more than the extra reach and extra isolation.

I added a 5DS-R a few months ago and have kept my 90D for now. There are instances where I want the "reach" and better low light performance of the 90D, so it has not gone unused. There are also circumstances inviting two cameras rather than just one. I would say my 5DS-R gets about 80-90% of my shutter releases these days with a slow upward trend.

Higher pixel density is usually better than a TC; AF is unimpeded, and you get none of the small optical flaws that are introduced by TCs, plus you have less electrical contacts in your rig that can become resistive or create decentering through greater sag, but a crop sensor does nothing for you for "reach" (more subject detail for small and/or distant subjects); that only comes from higher pixel density, or longer focal lengths. Your subject being larger in the viewfinder with a smaller sensor area has nothing directly to do with maximum subject quality; that depends on exposure, subject size on the sensor in square mm, and pixel density.

Since most of my glass is still Canon, I've started looking for a used Canon body.

For what I do, the extra bokeh isn't materially as important to me more than the extra reach and extra isolation.

If you are referring to the extent of background blur, that again has nothing to do with sensor size, unless you change your subject distance because of sensor size. If you get closer to the subject, your background blur increases without increasing your entrance pupil size. If you just crop from a larger sensor instead of getting closer, background blur is basically the same, especially with lenses that are slower than f/2.8 wide open. Faster lenses can lose background blur to the small pixel apertures with the microlenses, especially for smaller pixels. TCs increase the extent of the background blur in the frame, but they also magnify the subject, too, so the relative size of the blur to the subject size is basically the same, and that is actually determined by the size of the entrance pupil and distance to the subject and background; not TCs or sensor areas, unless TCs or sensor areas force or allow you to change distance.

I have been quite enjoying my R6 and 1.4x on the 100-400 for sports (at least outdoors, not so much indoors).

Sometimes the 2x comes out, but only when they really restrict our viewing locations:

Nice shots. Are those done using the eye focus mode?

I have it set up to try eye AF and if it finds no eyes, it will go to object tracking. So the first two likely found the eyes (and the first shot is one of about 45 shots in ES 20fps), and the last one likely went to object tracking.

My Nikon D500 gets used as much as my D850 for wildlife (mostly wading and shore birds) photography. It turns my 600mm f/4 ED IF AIS Nikkor into a 900mm f/4.
