For those of you interested in DJI's new FPV drone, here's iPhonedo taking it out for a spin for the first time. He even learns how to do a flip. I'm amazed at the speeds attained by this drone too. 0 to 60 mph in 2 seconds and a top speed of 87 mph.

Watched a few videos on YouTube about this drone, it’s quite frightening! The pause button is good though if you lose control or your bearings, you can just hit it and it instantly hovers even if you were upside down when you hit it , it flips you right way up and hovers.

I’ll stick to my M2P though

I've had the Oculus Quest and Quest 2 for a while so my VR legs are pretty good, but I can't imagine flying a drone basically in VR without getting nauseous. The visual sensation of being in high speed motion without the corresponding sensations in you equilibrium can make you sick real fast.

I’m wondering what the laws are with FPV drones. You need VLOS at all times with normal drones but you can’t have That if you are looking in the goggles

Edit - I googled it. It’s legal but you need an observer beside you to maintain the VLOS and warn the pilot if anything happens or the drone goes where it shouldn’t

I am still waiting for a drone mfg which can allow me take a APS-C or better like A7C and without costing $10k. Just need something which can go up 20-30 feet, hover, take a few shots and come down. Will see what Sony does in this field.

you should really get an entry level drone to get the hang of it before deep diving, for the sake of learning the ins and outs of flying safely.

Watched an hour long Mark Galer video today for a9ii settings (thanks David A), and a couple of things jumped out. He recommends “release” priority in AF-C. Every Sony I’ve owned I’ve always put it to “focus” priority but he says even in release all shots in a sequence are often in focus and you get the full FPS that way.

The second interesting thing was that he recommended turning steadyshot OFF if you are using shutter speeds fast enough to freeze action or if you are panning. Makes sense I suppose. Got me thinking that maybe steadyshot should only be on when trying to take slow shutter speed shots by hand but when I’m shooting people at 1/125 min it could be off? I’ll need to experiment. Maybe 1/125 isn’t fast enough and steadyshot would still help

Use settings based on your own style. I will always go for the focus priority, fps be damned as I am not shooting NBA/NFL sports.:) For steady shot, I will keep it on unless on the tripod as each person hand holding is different.

Well I have had the a1 for 4 days and it exceeds my expectations for birding ( my main use ) eye AF works really well and even if it does not find the eye the AF still gives a sharp shot the camera is very fast and almost instantly gets focus on the bird even with a cluttered back ground .

I've done quite a few bursts on pidions and nearly all are sharp like take 40 shots 2 are just a tad soft so for me it is a nice upgrade to my a9mkII and that is still a great camera but in the end bird eye AF, faster response and more MPs for cropping makes it my perfect birding camera .
Rob

Rob, thanks for your insights on the new camera. I'm still waiting to receive mine. It was initially expected to arrive yesterday but it's now been pushed into early next week which is ok but I'm 3rd on the pre-order list so I'm not 100% certain I'll receive mine in the first shipment given what appears too be a very limited supply.

My grilled steak

For my keto diner tonight, I had a green salad, green beans, and onions, and grilled this inch and a half thick USDA Prime Ribeye steak. This is only half the steak. I'll eat the other half tomorrow. :p *Slurp*

I thought about removing that one drop of juice but decided to leave it there.

nice one Gene. I do keto too. I lost 14lbs already. although weight is just a bonus though. Being healthy is the main thing.

Thanks Vinz. I agree about being healthy, a virtue I didn't follow very well for many years. I've always had a slender build but years of drinking too much, smoking, not eating right, and a host of other bad habits, wreaked havoc on my body.

It feels wonderful now to be back to a 34" waist and to be able to tuck my shirt in without worrying about a gut. I have more energy now and the loss of weight is certainly better for my back.

Congrats on your weight loss. I'm sure you'll reach your goal too.

I eat a whole-food plant-based diet for my best nutrition, but that juicy steak looks awesome! I have cheat days and I’ll go off diet on occasion.

My dad always wanted some sort of meat as the main course in every meal so I grew up being 'meat centric'. It's always a struggle for me to eat enough veggies and to get enough fiber.

Btw, the grill I used for that steak today is the same one my dad was using back in 1963.

Took my dads dog a walk earlier to test the tracking on my a9ii, can’t believe how well it works! Eye af with the kids is much better too than my a7riii. Going to have to turn it off H and onto M or L cos I’m ending up with too many similar shots in focus on the memory card :)

I seem to remember Charlie saying he rates the images in camera then only imports the rated ones to avoid heavy culling in light room. Going to have to read the manual and work out how to do that
