Whilst trees can look magnificent in full leaf, they have more interest for me when the leaves are on their way. A dark winter's evening a little while ago . . .

A short while back I mentioned the plight of the ash trees in Westonbirt Arboritum and their Chalara ash die back fungal infection. Today we had chance to get back in there into the section called Silk wood. It's a beautiful place, but the distruction caused by this fungus was awful!

It must be heart breaking for the arbourists who work so hard in there. They will be cutting down somewhere in the region of 2000 ash due to the problem!

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!

This is where the 'normally' felled trees are taken, but it's about twice the size it was late last year. Normally there are the trunks in the first half only.
