Two regular visitors to the River Thames - UK.

Cruise ships Marco Polo launched 1965
MaGellan. launched 1985
Both consigned to a breakers in India. Should have arrived by now.
Lament:- 'Alas poor ships, I knew them well'

Nice Ray, but too bad they are for the scrap heap. I have seen the Marco Polo up here a few times, but no more I suppose.

Thanks Annie, I think I remember seeing them off Kirkwall in Orkney a few years back.
I’m sure they will not be the only cruise ships for the breakers this year.

Two steamships in front of Jyväskylä, Finland. My father's photo from the mid- or late 1940s. The bigger ship, Jyväskylä, had room for 215 passengers, plenty of sleeping berths, a kitchen and big dining room, and at least in my time was the biggest passenger liner on the lake Päijänne. It ran between Jyväskylä in the north end of flat water and Lahti in the south, stopping at various places along the way including (happiness!!!) across the strait in front of our cottage. We sometimes traveled on it instead of by road. (More happiness!!!) I loved to sit right at the peak of the bow. Now it has been retired but its slightly smaller sister ship Suomi, now fitted with a diesel engine, still does charter cruises based on Jyväskylä.
