KT29 Goldmember More info | Mar 22, 2021 20:40 | #44 Lame-Duck wrote in post #19202579 My one-eyed Moxie Last retrieve of the season. Moxie, my 5 year old Labrador retriever, received an eye injury (corneal abrasion) while duck hunting with me this past December. My veterinarian, and very close friend did everything he could do to save her right eye. Finally after the situation continued to worsen, we decided to remove the eye rather than running the risk of loosing Moxie. She missed out on hunting the remainder of December and all of January. It really was upsetting to see her go thru this painful ordeal. Finally in February (after she completely healed up from the surgery), I decided to hunt her on the opening day of our late 5 day goose season. The hunting was terrible, but at the end of the day, my son and I were given one opportunity to knock down a specklebelly goose. We hit it hard but the goose sailed over 300 yards. I sent Moxie, knowing it would really be a tough retrieve for her. You can see the levee in the background where the goose hit the water. She ran the entire distance thru water that was approximately 18 inches deep, without slowing down. The goose would flap along the water, and dive under when Moxie was getting close. We finally saw her grab the goose on one of it's dives, and my son and I both started cheering. She's had to adjust to only one eye, but I'm amazed at how well she's been able to do it, and in such a shot period of time. I'm definitely proud of my gal! Nothing like a lab. Good for you and Moxie Mike.ߙ Terry --Eating eggs and lovin em.ߘ
