A man digging a bomb shelter near that church. Must have been on the same trip as the photo above. Mother and us children were spending the winter at the cottage, and I remember Father visiting us there on leave from the front. The only thing I remember from that visit is that we had access to a "smoky" sauna (no chimney) and we heated it for him.

Nice. Neat looking church.
That's a massive hydrangea. Assume that's what it is.

Thanks!
Yup, hydrangea is what it is - they are everywhere here.
I only found out recently that the colours of them are dependent on the Ph level of the soil, & not different strains.

The moon looking down is a nice added feature.

My father was stationed at R.A.F. Topcliffe when I was about 6, about 70 years ago. I doubt that it's changed much since then.

We were there when the USAF bought their latest top secret anti submarine aircraft across and based it for a while at Topcliffe, the Lockheed Neptune. A friend and me were escorted back home after being found under the wing of one of them. We had just wandered in, through the armed security cordon and were having a quiet look around the aircraft. Well, gotta be done ain't it

Sorry about wandering off subject, but ;-)a;-)a

2 lovely photos there HD! The internal one is lovely and crisp.

My ambition for a good while is to grow old disgracefully. So far my wife tells me that I am doing really well!
