I have the Yongnuo twin flash YN24EX and I wondered if the Raynox 250 would attach to the unit?

Paul.

A Raynox 250 attaches to the lens, like a filter....it is a 'closeup filter' I seen no correlation between using 'a lens filter' and using it with a twin flash unit. You are changing what the lens sees, not changing what the flash illuminated.

I see you have a 70D...I see no point in using an optically degrading close up lens rather than putting your existing lens on an extension tube. What (how big) is what you intend to shoot, so I have an idea of the macro magnification you need to achieve?

It would be for Collembolla and such. Most of mine I have to crop to get a bit of decent size.

Animals under 1mm in size, in a 15x22.5mm frame area...definitely macro territory. Getting the animal to be 5mm on sensor is needing 5x magnification out of a lens. Canon does have a lens to do that, but it is unlikely that you could stack 5*FL amount of extension tubes to get 5x results on sensor with a lens you own already!

I have the Venus 2:1 macro - and that is difficult on critters < 2mm but it's an enjoyable challenge.

I figure the Raynox 250 will just give it a gentle boost and mean a little less cropping.

Just realize it's going to become even more challenging at 2.5x compared to 2x

The Raynox assumes the front thread on the lens is 49mm...what does your lens have?!

I've heard many good things about the Raynox, as well as seen some nice shots. It's just not for me, just one more piece of glass. My 100mm + full set of extensions tubes has given me great results, & that's with some cropping. It gives me about the same mag as your Laowa. Your 70d would give a little more "reach" than my 6D. I began playing with a 4x microscope objective & attachments with great results, & cheaper than the Raynox. This might be a little further than you want to go, all kinds of reflecting light & stuff. I was just about to get into flocking around the shiny things when I decided to start shooting film & turned my small work area into a negative viewing/scanning work station.

I've seen some wonderful images coming from those Laowa brand of lenses, very interesting. Wide angle macro, probe lenses, this is pretty cool stuff!!

Ok, I see the issue now. I thought you had the flash with the heads separated from the lens. The Raynox does measure by filter size but it's a variable size because it's a clip-on filter, not a screw on type. Due to the shape of it I'm doubtful you can use it with that particular flash.

I don't have an answer for whether the Raynox will fit with your twin flash. I just wanted to mention that the reduction in image quality from using the Raynox filter is negligible. I've been using it for a while now and have been very happy with it. I would not consider it optically degrading.

I think if I get one - it will have to be used with just natural light and not the flash.

Thanks for all your input folks.

Paul.

That is one solution, here is another.... I rigged this together for more flexibility with my Bolt flash. Can you remove the flash heads from the mount?

I have the flash heads on these bought off Ebay, mounted above the lens behind my diffuser - so they do similar to your rigging to a degree:
