First, thank you Travis because this is a fantastic idea for a thread. You are exactly right regarding the others and I think it is quite nice to have one dedicated to landscapes. For my first contribution this is an image from Oxbow Bend in the Tetons, and is one of my favorite black and white images in my portfolio.

All of the post work was done in Lr, and was quite extensive on the dodging and burning. I also had to spend quite a bit of time with creative sharpening. Not the best lens in the world but also complicated with some diffraction softening. I feel very fortunate however, you only get so much time at these places that are outside the area you live, and many never get the kind of morning this one was.

What a great scene and moment, and your comp of light and shadow is full of energy, like a wave of energy. Love it.

Thanks. I had been waiting for just those conditions for quite a while.

Visitor Center rock formations @ Valley of Fire in Overton, Nevada... Converted to b/w for overall feel and depth... Tripod mounted with wired shutter release helped make this super sharp... CPL filter added that extra punch to the scenery!!!

Waiting out a rain storm I noticed this scene, rolled down the window and snapped this. It actually turned out as I had hoped.. How often does that actually happen?

Sometimes the shots we “see” in situations like that end up being the most pleasing of all. Great result.

My own shot that happened much that way. This isn’t at all the scene I was concentrating on, but one of my more pleasing shots of the morning personally.
