HOLD OFF on R6 Firmware update!

I don;t mean to be alarmist, but the 1.3 update has been taken down from most Canon sites. It's not coordinated, so it may still be out there on some servers. Asia had it down some time before USA for example.

Without knowing why it's been taken down, I'd advise on the side of caution and NOT do the update if you have not yet.

Many thanks for drawing attention to this! I always follow the "wait and see" approach to firmware updates anyway, but this sudden pulling of the update doesn't inspire confidence.

Damn! I just updated it two hours ago!

Any idea what’s wrong with the update?

No more than what I have seen, ie: it's been taken down.

For those that have already performed the update, so far with no signs of complaints anywhere, I would not worry about it.

This from a post on DPReview, so as it to it's validity I can not comment;

"Just talked to CPS Canada and it sounds like the Camera will lock up in Movie mode when setting to Crop and higher framerates(I do not have my R6 to check as it is in for service).

They did not have a timeline for the fixed firmware."

Just a hopeful guess but maybe they will be adding the same features as the R5 like saving settings to your SD?!?!

Fascinating? Or smoke and mirrors?

Smoke and mirrors, and really does not belong in this thread. It IS just scaling, it's just Adobe has finally caught up with the likes of Genuine Fractals and Gigapixel AI. You can't make image data.

the only thing I see as "different" (and this is a nice feature for Adobe users!) is it happens during conversion from a RAW file.
So your RAW file remains 20MP, but the converted output already has the resize done, saving you the trouble of outputting a file and reopening in another app, like G.F. or Gigapixel. That added streamlined speed and flexibility is hardly revolutionary. None of this has ever or likely will ever change the demand for real resolution. The real advantage to you is streamlining, to Adobe is keeping you in THEIR workspace.

Too late. I've already updated. Took the camera out for a short shoot this morning without any issues.

From my shoot after doing the firmware update. Hopefully it is only a video update as I don't generally do videos.

Here’s a video of what the issue is with the firmware. Thankfully no issues for photo mode.

I have the update downloaded but hadn’t installed it yet. Considering I never touch video mode I’m tempted to just update it lol.

I love the Hello Kitty camera skin in the guy’s video!

Anyway, it seems you can’t go back to the previous firmware version so I expect a version 1.3.1 very soon to kill that video bug. As stills shooting is not affected - as I don’t do video, although I shot some footage yesterday - I’m not worried.
