Just ordered a star tracker......

I've been on the fence about swapping out my wider lenses but I don't think I'd gain much with regard to light gathering when out with the night skies really.

Nice one Lee, ready for the 14 1.8 :p

What one did you go for?

No. NO. NO!! :p

I was tempted with the 24GM or 20G but I won't gain much over the Samyang really - aside from maybe better corners & slightly better IQ for the aperture.

I shoot about 13/15 seconds with the 24mm ISO 1000/1250 & stopped down a touch - If I can get up to at least a minute with the tracker that's going to be an extra couple of stops. My recent 35GM shot was f/1.6

I went for the Move Shoot Move rotator/laser pointer kit - on offer right now at £173

Did you get the Move Shoot Move?

Edit: excellent choice! Get the z or v plate.

I was torn on the Z or V plates or the wedge mount...... But i have two tripods anyway so I'll just use it with the two ball heads I have & see how I get on.

For those of you that use Lightroom, which do you use, Lightroom or Lightroom Classic?

I'm thinking about installing just to use the Negative Lab Pro plugin for converting scanned negatives to positives.

Gene, Lightroom Classic is the main fully-developed version of Lightroom and the right choice for you imo. Lightroom CC is Adobe’s ongoing underdeveloped cloud-based version of Lightroom that coordinates well with their also-underdeveloped Lightroom Mobile project.

I’m confident that you’ll find the Develop module inside Lightroom Classic very very easy to use because it shares pretty much the exact same interface as ACR.

Regarding Lightroom CC and Lightroom Mobile, Adobe has been shocking me with their laziness and slowness in building out these apps. It could be that users are refusing to adopt these apps...but why should anyone use Lightroom CC when it’s so underdeveloped as compared to the features/abilities of Lightroom Classic? Vicious cycle.

After reading the documentation further, they also recommend Lightroom Classic when using the Negative Lab Pro plugin. Thanks for confirming which choice is best.

Lightroom Classic, it has more features I need.

Do you mean DXO PureRaw?

Your post has me intrigued...watching Sean Bagshaw’s presentation right now. :)

Oh yes that’s it. I watched most of Sean’s video yesterday. PureRAW does appear to have a bit more aggressive sharpening.

I'm probably going to return the GM and go with the two Sigma lenses.

I find that the Bigma renders the best, so it would be my choice for posed portraits and weddings on the a7rIV. 35i is much more compact than the 35GM, so its my go-to for casual shooting on the a7c. I was out with the fam this weekend and brought the GM out...did not enjoy it nearly as much as the 35i.

There's no "best" lens between the 3. Depends on what you prioritize.

Bigma @1.2

I do like how the sigma 1.2 looks. that little aperture makes a difference. I went with the gm for it's size and weight.

Well, I think I"m sold on Negative Lab Pro but getting LR Classic to work was a real PITA. I couldn't get LR 10.x to do anything. As soon as I clicked anywhere, the program would freeze with a "not responding" message. I installed an earlier version and although still terribly slow, at least allowed me to finally get the plugin working.

What impressed me the most I think was that I could scan the negative in Silverfast as a 48bit raw .dng file and this plugin could read and edit it. This sample is the first negative I converted using the plugin. I haven't done anything else other than straightening and remove dust and a fingerprint. The camera must have moved during the exposure which I didn't realize. For now, my interest is in how well the plugin functions.

Excellent news, you might have to show me how to use that one day soon!! ;-)a I've pondered on a tracker before, but I figured they would be too tricky to set up, especially when its pitch black!
