Starlings are great fun, especially youngsters with their non-stop begging. They're relentless and parents start to look really scruffy after a while!

I like the shot a lot, Paul.
And I always love birds in a field/on grass when there are flowers.

Question:

When you come home with a number of action sequences where every darn shot is in perfect focus, sharp and each pose is just about spectacular, how do you choose which one (or two) to process? How DO you choose?!

It's ridiculous how good this camera is!

I leave them all set on the computer for a couple days before I review them! Then MAYBE I can make-up my mind which ones to keep.

You just keep them all as it would be a sin to delete any of them. In a few years you will return to them and enjoy pulling out a few more gems to polish.

Unfortunately it is rare that I would get such a result but I am happy to get just one good photo from a shoot

Getting down on the ground for the birds definitely makes for a great photo

You are right of course, and that is good advice!

For me too, but there are moments where everything just works. And this camera doesn't fail when that happens.

Indeed! Nothing beats shooting them at eye level. Excellent shot, Paul. And these are such great little birds. Very approachable.

Great crested grebe.
It was late in the day but a low sun easily gets the whites on these birds overexposed. So I exposed for the whites and hoped for the best. I honestly didn't know what to do in post. Just brightened the crest a bit so it stood out against the background and applied some sharpening.

No, I still have no idea why the R6 was shooting black frames on several occasions. I think it happened maybe 3 or 4 times in all but not since I reported it here.
