Moon from Brisbane 21st May 2021. I used two Canon Extenders x2 stacked. The Version III and the Version II to give a focal length of 1200mm at F11.

Mounted on tripod, using Electronic Shutter I took 60 frames and then used Autostakkert3 SW to Align and Stack the best 30 Frames.

Cheers

Dennis

Nice picture.

The lens is right on the edge of being too heavy for just the camera mount IMO. so when it’s mounted on my tripod it seems to want to lean forward, just feel more comfortable with it mounted from the lens. I see there’s one on Amazon called Ishoot?

Your lens did not come with a tripod socket then. That surprises me, but it is what it is.

You need what is at the BOTTOM RIGHT (external link) on this page.

Maybe the Ishoot would work???

I see now Sigma has two different 100-400 lenses. The more expensive lens does show a (what I call) Lens Foot. The other lens does not show one.

On the Sigma Website (external link) Dropdown List click on "Telephoto Lenses" then scroll down and find the higher priced 100-400 lens (I do hope you own this one) click on that lens.

Scroll down a little bit until you find "OVERVIEW TECH SPECS RATINGS & REVIEWS RESOURCES ACCESSORIES"
Click on "Accessories" then scroll down until on the BOTTOM RIGHT corner of accessories shown you see the "TS-111 Tripod Socket Kit".

Which lens do you own? If you own the other 100-400 model I would call Sigma and ask if this foot will fit both lenses. Looking at the Tech Specs for each they do weigh the same amount and diameter size is also the same so I would think one would fit both.

Yeah I have the DG OS HSM so the one that doesn’t have the foot thing. I’ll have to contact them and see if it will work. If not the I lshoot one looks very similar to the sigma one so may just have to try it out

This is the Moon as imaged from Brisbane on 24th May 2021.

Canon EOS R5 with Extender EF x2 Mk III -> Extender EF x2 Mk II -> 300mm F2.8L Mk II which gives me 1200mm at F11.

Cheers

Dennis

WOW! Excellent DETAIL!!!!!

Thank you Charles, I appreciate your comments.

A lot of the detail is really brought out by post processing, and is so dependent on how steady the atmospheric conditions are at the time, not to mention a sturdy tripod and a remote release.

Cheers

Dennis
