Yes, normally you get the stacks of boxes on those pallets, but occasionally they surprise you with interesting loads (low quality pictures with my phone-sorry):

In my airline we do carry everything you can think of, even those items other airlines would not get anywhere near to, like lithium ion batteries in big numbers.
This is much more profitable than flying passengers apparently.

Wow that's a lot of space ! Thanks for sharing.

I know that for a PAX plane, the lower deck is used for luggage fore and aft of the wing root (which is one of the fuel tanks). For a dedicated cargo aircraft, is the lower deck used for smaller packages or is everything just palletized on the main deck ?

I'm mainly here for the snacks
