Banks of the Yakima

I spent a fair amount of time fly fishing and the Yak was my home waters for 20-some years. Can't do slippery rocks anymore so I mostly hung up my Sage picked up a Canon. Happened to be driving through the canyon the other day and I stopped to take a look.

These birds are my friends. They're all over the place around here and I actively seek them out. Where there's birds there's bugs and where there's bugs there's fish.

These bugs are Caddis flies. Decent little hatch going on for mid-day. Always carried caddis patterns. Hot-butt EHC is the go-to. Naturals today are probably size 18. I'd go with a 16 here, give myself a fighting chance to see my fly on the water. Fish aren't that picky in these parts. Especially about caddis. Didn't see any rises on the far bank. Couldn't see the near bank. Flows are high so there's never much action in the middle this time of year.

But I did catch this picture and thought about fish.

Don't know what these birds are called. Little brown birds is all I know.

drsilver, very nice photo and sharing of information, I like both. The bird looks like an Eastern Kingbird, if it is, they are very friendly birds around humans. I have them follow me much of the time when mowing or working in the field, they will get very close and like to fly from perch to perch as they stay close, they are using me to scare up bugs they can then catch, I enjoy their company. :-)
