This may be my last post here on this thread as I am thinking of putting it up for sale. It's been a while since I took it out. I did this weekend as you can search my last few posts. I still think it's a great lens, but I have the RF 800 and EF 100-400 II. So IMO it is not really needed anymore. PM me if interested.

I am shooting with a Canon 7D ii and Sigma 150-600 C.

Two outings ago, the lens would not focus, using either auto-focus or manual. I tried removing it from the camera and remounting it, but could not .I've the focus ring.

Yesterday it suddenly worked when I turned the camera on. A few moments later, it would only auto-focus on near objects. I took the lens off again and there was this little brass connector (looks broken) sitting on the flange of the camera mount. I can't see where it might have broken off the lens or the camera.

I remounted the lens and it all works perfectly, both focus and exposure. But I am now petrified that it will fail on me on an outing.

Does anyone have any idea where this might have broken off and what the likelihood of another failure is without it ?

Check your other lenses that you might use and see if anything is missing? I'm wondering it came off another lens and may have been shorting out connections while the 150-600 was mounted.

Just a guess, but I'd think a broken piece like that would be noticeable on the lens or camera.

It is about 3/4 cm long and 3 or 4mm wide. Looks like it could be one got the contacts like you see at the bottom of the lens, but there aren't any of those missing.

Good thought. I will double check in the morning, but I don't recall actually using any other lenses recently.
