Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Point and Shoot. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

This week you can Point and Shoot.. Use a Point and Shoot camera, a cell phone or just Point and Shoot from the hip with your DSLR.. Let's see what you've got.

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

Thinking how to interpret "point and shoot" took a while. My G15 is only halfway toward a DSLR, so how to downgrade it the right amount to qualify? Then today it occurred to me to set it to Auto. That takes away several choices. It substitutes software for judgment.

Here are two shots of vegetation in Auto. The focus point was confined to the center. EC adjustment wasn't possible. I allowed myself zoom but limited PP to cropping and sharpening.

I pulled out our first digital camera, a Kodak EasyShare DX4530, and took a few snaps. After some PP I liked these the best.

While over in Vancouver doing some shooting I found myself here.
A haunting memorial to the short lives of 215 First Nations
children whose unmarked graves were recently found on the
grounds of what used to be a "residential school"
They were found using ground penetrating radar.
215 pairs of children's shoes.

The Canon DPP4 software screen capture,

.
I went up to the mountains yesterday morning to do some 'real' photography of alpine wildlife. . I only took my big telephoto lens with me, so when I realized how beautiful the scene around me was, the only way I had to capture it was with my cheap cell phone.

I have no idea how to adjust any of the settings on my phone's camera. . The only thing I know to do is to tap on the camera icon to turn it on, aim the camera to frame the shot, and then tap the thing that acts like a shutter button. . Whatever settings or defaults are in place are what gets used, as I have no idea how to override any of them. . So I guess that's as "point and shoot" as it gets.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Tom, those are impressive images for a cheap cellphone, or a cheap anything, or for many not-cheap things. I don't know how you could have done better with different gear.

.
Thank you both!

The difference between good gear and crappy gear doesn't really show up that much in ideal conditions, like when there is a lot of light, and when it is perfectly even - sun coming from over my shoulder lighting everything up exactly the same way. . As we know, it is when there is both light and shadow in a scene, or when the light is low, that cheap cell phones really struggle, where quality photographic gear would excel.

By the way, I'm attaching a shot below that shows my 'good' camera and lens on the tripod, just to give some context to show what it was like to photograph in that place with the 'real' gear.

I absolutely love it there with the remaining snow, but I am afraid that with the warm temps and breeze today, all of that wonderful snow will be gone by tomorrow morning, and I will have to wait another year before I can shoot there again in the conditions that I prefer.
