They're very small, 1.5 cm or so. I'll take one to measure when I pass by again. You can estimate the amount of edible tissue by comparing the pits in the close-up with the whole dates. I suppose they interest squirrels and possibly birds. The date with an exposed, powdery interior looks to have hosted the larva(e) of a seed eater. These tiny dates might be worthwhile for small animals, although I didn't see anything going after them. Palms are planted here as ornamentals.
