I use Lightroom for culling. It is ideal for that purpose. You can very easily zoom in to 1:1 to check for critical focus, boost exposure to see if a shot will tolerate that, compare to pick the best of two, diddle white balance or other settings to try to rescue before discarding, and mark for deletion before actually deleting. It views the actual raw instead of an embedded JPG. I think it is ideal for the purpose.

When I started on LR many years ago, the program was touted primarily as a digital asset management tool. You catalogued your shots with keywords so you could find stuff back later. Plus, it could develop the photo. The developing tools were useful but a bit basic back then. I fooled around with the app to see if it was for me. I didn't catch on to the cataloguing at all, and the processing features were simple, but it was great for culling. So in those days, that's what I used LR for. And today I still do.

I've tried to use FastStone and other image applications for culling, but end up going back to LR.

Thanks. I may end up remaining with LR too. Others have recommended FastStone and Canon's DPP. One thing that I think DPP does is identify where the camera focused on each shot. I wish LR would add that tool to their program.

Thanks again,

Woody
