Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is From the Animal Kingdon. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us something from the Kingdom of Animals

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

Although humans are part of the animal kingdom, I decided to stick with four legged critters. Meet Dragon, a donkey we rescued and adopted recently.

.
Here's a Bullsnake that I found last night and photographed just a few minutes ago. . I'll shoot it another time or two in a different place, and then tonight I'll be taking it back and releasing it at the exact spot I found it.

I'm actually having some trouble positively identifying this as a Bullsnake or a Gophersnake, or maybe even as an intergrade between the two. . Bullsnakes are subspecies of the Gophersnake, and there is a fair deal of conflicting information about the distribution of this subspecies and how it may, or may not, overlap with the distribution of the straight species.

Recently, a government naturalist at the Organ Pipes National Monument told me something I will never forget,

"Common names change from place to place and from person to person. Latin names and classifications change from year to year and from week to week."

Kinda funny, but there is truth in that!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

The heat is brutal this year.. I've always had water out for whatever may come thru my yard, It's drawn some surprising guests!
Pretty deer there, Terry. Nicely captured.

Thanks Joayne. Our heat wave is unprecedented. 110 at the end of June into early July doesn't bode well for my neck of the woods.

Wow! . What a unique deer! . I can't recall ever seeing such a dark muzzle on a Whitetail before. . Wonder what that's gonna look like in her greyish-brown winter coat.

Chilling on my back fence - dirty window and me trying to not spook them off by being seen in the window, still a thrill. Two of three that I've been seeing lately.

Yes, the muzzle is pretty dark, but is fairly common for the whitetails in my neighborhood.

Yes, he does like to roll around in the pasture, but Sunny has made it clear that they will be "friends without benefits." :p
