I've become less and less happy with my Viltrox EF<>RF adapter. Bought it because it was the only thing available when I got my R6. It's got way too much play in it and sometimes I have to reset my lens to get everything working again. I borrowed my daughters genuine Canon RF adapter and confirmed there's nothing wrong with my body or lenses.. it's definitely the Viltrox adapter that's wonky. I have had my name on many backorder lists for Canon RF adapter for months now to no avail. Anyone have a line on how to acquire one? It seems the $199 RF adapter with control ring is more easy to acquire but I'd rather not spend the extra $100 or have the extra weight. Thoughts?

^ I went ahead and bit the $100 bullet, ordered the Canon adaptor with control ring directly from Canon. I ordered it on Thursday, and it's supposed to arrive today. Fingers crossed !

I have the control ring adapter and it works great. You will enjoy your EF lenses. I think even better than on DSLR bodies

You can also add the adapter(s) to a watchlist on Canon Price Watch. If you are ready to act fast, getting the in stock notification for either or both adapters could help.

I started with the Vello adapter last fall while I was waiting for the Canon adapters (I had one of each type on order). When they came, they did fit much better than the Vello adapter just like your Viltrox experience. I recently reduced my EF lens count to just one (the EF 16-35 f/4). I kept the control ring adapter and sold the regular one.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

What about the Meike? It is only ~$56 in the US and has a pretty solid build, and always seems to be available.

If you like to vary one parameter a lot when shooting with shorter EF lenses, you can save wear on the camera dials with a control ring adapter. In my experience, frequently rotated camera dials are the first thing to fail on a body.

I got that one whilst my Canon with control ring was order as it was taking ages. Ironically, I only had it a week when the Canon one arrived. One of the reasons I chose that over the Vitrox one is they couldn't guarantee that it would work correctly on all of my lenses. I figured if I was going to take a gamble I would go with the cheaper option. The Meke is now my backup however the Canon one is clearly better made and feels more solid and I would be a little concerned on the Meke being able to support the weight of a long lens over long periods of time, but yes, it seems to work fine.

I use the Meike with the R5, 2xIII and 400/4DO II all the time. The only thing that ever accidently opened was the lens from the 2xIII, a purely Canon connection.

The lens+TC's weight is never on the mount. I hold the rig by either just the lens, or lens and camera grip.

Just a few seconds later he dove off the deck and grabbed a dove off my lawn. Taken through tinted glass door, looks like he still could see me.
