It should. The R6 will likely automatically go into crop mode.

Is that because of the specific lens? Most 3rd-party APS-C lenses do not tell the system that they are crop-sensor lenses, especially older ones.

Keep in mind you'll get about an 8mpx image in crop mode when using EF-S/APS-C lenses.

Like an EOS 30D, but with much better AF, burst speed, and metering, and a lot less noise.

Probably, but the focal lengths may be reported incorrectly to the camera, rendering IBIS into a totally destructive feature with that lens. Lenses that claim to be some other lens can get corrected for the wrong distortions, too, in OOC JPEGs and JPEGs embedded in RAW files, if distortion correction is on.

Totally destructive? It may not work well, and the images may not be good, but I don't think anything will be destroyed. Please feel free to elaborate.

I am thinking of picking up a 180mm macro lens to use with my R6.

So i have a choice between the Canon EF 180mm macro and the Sigma 180mm f/2.8 APO Macro

Would both work equally well with the adaptor?

Assuming both work, I am swaying towards the Sigma as it is newer so please persuade me otherwise if that is the wrong choice. Both seem to be about the same price used.

I have had, IMO, spectacular results with EF lenses on the R6 using the adapter. Mostly Canon EF lenses but also the Tamron 70-200

I also have been really pleased with all my EF lenses on the R6. I suppose I should really asked if non Canon lenses will play nicely as I have full faith in the Canon EF lenses working fine.

I shoot with Sigma lens (24 & 85 prime with Canon adapter) and am pleased with the results. I thought their prime worked well when I had the 5D mklll but was shocked when I used it on my R6. I'm a "shoot portrait wide open when I can" guy and have been pleased with the results. I know not everyone shoots portraits wide open but when I can get away with it I do lol I can post a couple pictures when I get home this afternoon if you'd like.

I bought a used Canon 180 a few years ago. I didn't realize when I bought it that it did NOT have image stabilization. I like to hand-hold, and the lack of IS was a problem. I ended up trading it for a Canon 100 macro.

I think the Sigma does have their Optical Stabilizer feature in it. If you hand-hold, that would be the feature that would sway me towards the Sigma.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

That's a good, and for this day and age, a very positive way of looking at it. Some of my favourite images still, were taken with my 30D and 1d MkIIn

If you go to page 164 of this thread you will see a little study i did of using the sigma 10 20
The R6 did not know it is a crop lens and i could use it wider than expected
It may be the same for the tokina

It will create more blur than it was trying to correct, if the assumed focal length is much longer than what it actually is. If the assumed focal length is shorter, then it will be only partially corrective.

Thank you. I do use a Canon 65mm that has no image stabilization and its not too painful an experience (even on my 5D Mark IV) but I hear what you are saying and the Sigma is I believe 20 years younger than the Canon lens too. I do have a lot of trust in Canon lenses though but about time I gave Sigma a go.

I assume the R6 in body stabilisation would help the Canon 180mm though?

Thanks for the advice.

Paul

[Edited to say I have bought a used Canon 180mm now as even though it is really old, it gets some amazing reviews and it is a lot lighter than the Sigma]
