These look great! Quick question, I'm thinking of doing this for my daughter's high school games next year. I'm assuming you set the remote camera on manual focus, correct? How do you set that up? What do you use as your focal point?

Yep, manual focus about a yard in from the goal line where the keeper would normally be. Set the shutter at 1/1600 if you can in manual mode with auto ISO and over expose by 2/3 or 1 full stop depending on the sky.

Saturday soccer league play in Tempe, AZ. The summer league just finished their playoffs. These guys (and a couple of gals) played in 100 plus temps!

First match of the new league season played in torrential downpour. Not the easiest conditions to shoot in tethered to a laptop, but thankfully the raincover kept most of the water at bay. Very competitive but physical game with lots of tackles flying in as each team tried to exert their authority.

Thanks John! It was a free kick that went in. It's interesting that the ball is still flattened from the kick.

Or were you using electronic shutter?

Yes, I used the electronic shutter, but the a9 doesn't have the rolling shutter distortion of the a7 or a6400 (I have a lot of experience with both). I've taken at least 200K action shots with my a9 and haven't seen a single instance.

Finally back to sports shooting. It has been a long time since my last shoot March 7, 2020.

Got to get out this morning and snag a little youth soccer. This kid cracked me up with his hurdles all game.
