I do not think you need to worry about delivering the goods! This lens is magnificent! The only significant difference between this one and the MkII is weight. Every other improvement is "slight" at best.

Was undecided between this and an used 600 F4 IS, but at the end the more "reasonable" package and potential hand-holdability (at least for short periods) of the 500 made me prefer this one at the end
