Thistles Progress.
Welp, it's reached 10 foot (AGL) and is showing signs of exhaustion, the bees have enjoyed its nectar for a few weeks and the blooms are fading.-?
We - (meaning me and SWMBO) reluctantly decided this morning - that it had to come down. The heads are now drying out in the summerhouse to get the seeds and I hope we can start a new life cycle for it next year.:-)

I have taken this with my new EF16-35mm L IS USM just to give it a try before I introduce it to the world.

I think if you cleaned up a bit esp. on the left this could be a framer.

OK John - Thanks for your comments - no problem. I was thinking of cleaning the picture up a bit before I posted it but I did not intend it for an exhibition shot. Anyway, I have taken that bit of foliage out of the left hand side and taken the birds out - they were rather distant and looked like dust on the sensor.-? It has improved the picture - thanks.:-)

Tread carefully, Richard - she was not happy with it because it was apparently overpowering the honeysuckle.
Chainsaw not necessary - I used the long handled loppers - but the trunk was thick and it was surprisingly heavy for a thistle. Subsequently 'plant DNA' revealed it was of Scottish descent so I walked around it with a haggis and played a lament on the bagpipes. - (If you believe that, you'll believe anything):-D :p

AGL? Is that a British measure?

Come on; Richard -?- - - AGL (Above Ground Level) Measure it in whatever units you like providing you state what they are - Feet, inches, cms, metres, perches, poles, chains or barleycorns or whatever.:-)
Especially for you Richard - here is an interesting link - it takes me back to my early schooldays - blimey.-?

Well that's all very interesting Ray.
I was trying to think what height datum you were using and the obvious passed me by :-x
Barleycorn. New one on me. Thanks for that.

Actually, height above ground is a lot more meaningful.
Well it is until the excavator moves in and takes out couple metres, many barleycorns of dirt and "Now where was that supposed to be built to?"
Then! That's where datums, proper ones, fall into place :-P

Flowers! Sorry, realised we're talking about flowers.
Must say that's some thistle, or was

Richard
