Good light helps a lot. Are you taking good photos? May we see some of yours?

Check out for tutorials about frequency separation on YouTube. FS give very good results for portraits.

The result you can achieve will depend a good deal on the quality of the image you start with. You might find some useful guidance in tutorials by the late Gry Garness, who was a master at beauty retouching.

Whatever technique you use will require a lot of practice to get results similar to the samples you posted. I'll suggest a couple of techniques you might play with. Here is very quick illustration (Photoshop CS6); with a larger image and more time, you can surely come closer to your target images. I selected the face, so that is the only skin I altered here.

1. A selective color adjustment layer to shift overall skin tones toward your target. I worked solely in the reds. You have to experiment. A screen shot below shows what I did.

2. A hue/saturation adjustment layer in multiply mode, with saturation dialed back to 50%. I used this for the blush on the cheek, plus the molding along the jaw line (camera left side). Black mask, then gently paint the effect back in where it's needed.

Also note in the target (far right) image that highlights were added on the cheek just below the eye, and also above the eyebrow. I didn't do that here, but refinements like that are essential to get the result you're after.

If you can articulate the characteristics of the photo you like (vs. the ones less liked), you might get specific responses. Some random contributors I can think of...

  • Change color temperature by about -400K to make a photo a touch 'warmer' than a perfectly neutral color temperature setting
  • Alter Tint setting to be a bit less 'green' and 'more magenta' or vice versa
  • post processing settings such as Vibrance in Lightroom

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php
Canon dSLR system, Olympus OM 35mm system, Bronica ETRSi 645 system, Horseman LS 4x5 system, Metz flashes, Dynalite studio lighting, and too many accessories to mention

Not sure if you are looking for those specific types of skin tones or accurate/pleasing.

I have Color Checker Passport. I don’t use it because it tends to saturate blues and reds more than I remember seeing them, which is a whole different conversation.

When it comes to skin tones it is bang on. Very clean and natural looking. If I shot people then I’d use it.
