A field of magnetic termite (Amitermes meridionalis) mounds looking like gravestones on a burnt floodplain adjacent to the Finniss River in Australia's Northern Territory. These mounds are mostly 2 - 3 metres high with the broad faces facing east and west to maximise solar heat absorption in the mornings and late afternoon, while minimising it during the heat of the day.
