My wife found this Mantis in our Lavender in the evening, but I waited until early the next day to shoot it hoping that the cooler temps would slow it down. No such luck though. It was active and difficult to photograph. Image taken in Lago Patria, Italy in September of 2021.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F14, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI and Clarity in that order.

Great portrait of this mantis, my favorite insect. So much detail.

Thank!

I am getting better at tracking moving subjects. Only missed focus a few times, and managed to get about four or five different head shots.

Unbelievably, I have spotted another ichneumon wasp in the garden.

Love the look of these critters. I have never seen one so Googled it and it sounds like we don't get them in the UK

There are a few different species here, but in my experience they are rare. There is a large field next to my apartment that has a lot of wild flowers, so there is a lot of prey. So I might get lucky and see more of them in the future.

Thank you. There are so fewer hoverflies this year in my garden than last year - I suspect due to our failed attempts at gardening

Seems like they are present in some parts of Europe but not the UK - how strange!
