Glad you used a long lens. They are one of the most toxic rattlers.

Fortunately none of my lenses will focus closer than six feet from a rattlesnake unless there is a big glass filter in front:lol:. I've always heard about them, and did some research. Some, but not all, Mojaves do have a neurotoxin that makes their venom especially potent. But they are small snakes, rarely exceeding 3 feet and have caused very few human fatalities. A really big Diamondback is probably more dangerous, but I certainly wouldn't mess around with any of them.

This Eastern Water Dragon was relaxing in the shade and I managed to grab several sets of consecutive images for DOF stacking, by placing the AF Point (on the rear LCD) over various parts of his anatomy and using "Touch Shutter" to take the shot.

From the 9 sets I took, 7 were not suitable as he made gross movements between frames so they weren't worth stacking.

In the end, two sets (6 frames and 9 frames) were useable, with minimum movement of the beast between shots, although I did miss one or two "slices" as it were. It was frustrating to wait between shutter releases, so next time I'll turn off the download/view on rear LCD to see if that speeds up the process to minimise the risk of movement between frames.

Tripod mounted with a Speedlite on the hot shoe as the guy was in the shade.

Cheers

Dennis

Northern water dragon aka ta-ta lizard, Gowidon temporalis, on my gatepost when I got home just now. They're common in Darwin and the Top End, and are called ta-ta lizards due to their habit of waving one 'hand' when they stop after running.

Nice pose, shows off that extra long 4th toe (L-R) that our EWDs also have.

Cheers

Yes I wonder what evolutionary advantage that long toe gives them.
