Hurricane R4118. I was privileged to meet a 100 year old veteran fitter who worked on this Hurricane during the Battle of Britain when it was based at Croydon Aerodrome. His first job on joining 605 Squadron was repairing battle damage to the starboard wing of R4118. An amazing gentleman.

P-38 "Glacier Girl" at the September 12, 2010 Capital Air Show. This P-38 was rescued from under the Greenland ice fields and restored to flying condition. There were five P-38s at this air show.

That's a fantastic capture and unique.
Certainly prefer the non clipped wings
I assume there was a good reason for such.
Certainly took that beautiful smooth, graceful look from them

The clipped wings were for better low altitude performance. More lift and agility but less speed. At least from what I remember.

If you see the Panasonic 100-400mm lens in exif it is really the Olympus 100-400 that is not in the database.

Originally to increase roll rate and manoeuvrability. Also gave better visibility looking down as clipping shaved about four feet from each side.

Hadn't been to an air show in 2 years, but I made it out to the Reno Air Races on Friday.

Some STOL drag racing at the Reno AirRaces. These were very fun to watch.
