It's a Pratt & Whitney TF-33.

This is the same engine from the front.

VFA-122, I was in that squadron in the early eighties when it was VA-122 and operating A-7E Corsairs out of NAS Lemoore California.

Thanks, yeah I like airports too and I think the smell is part of it.

I am another one of those WEIRDOS, I do miss flight line work with the smells and mostly the noise.

When I was an active skydiver, "I love the small of jet fuel in the morning" was a popular mantra.

JP-4, coffee, plus salty ocean air; my morning tonic once upon a time.

I'll join the 'love the smell and noise' bunch. I always found that working on aircraft was a very special job and loved my time in the R.A.F. even if I did have to suffer 2 1/2 years in Singapore

The only piston engined aircraft i ever worked on was the Avro Shackelton Mk2 Phase 2 tail draggers of 205 Sqdn at R.A.F. Changi

One of the advantages of them was that when they took off for an operational 17 hour patrol, which was the norm, they couldn't land for 7 hours as they were too heavy with fuel and couldn't dump it. They had to burn it off. The duty ground crew could leg it off to the bar and have a few and still get a nights sleep before they came back

Total hell but someone had to do it
