I'm thinking, vast flying dragon rises from its thousand-year sleep under the town of Bay de Verde! Nice!

Better idea than mine.

I'm betting if you send all the edits you get in this challenge round to the local paper of Bay de Verde, they get printed in there

My night version. Tougher than expected but the more I fiddle the worse it gets

A mix of PL4, MS ICE, SNS-HDR, PS amd Luminar AI for sky replacement

Great fun even though the result is mediocre :-)

You know I was think just that this morning! Maybe I can get permission from all who post here for that? (Don't know how copyright works when I own the base photos but did not create the final images.)

I added a note of permission to my edit. Others can do the same if they like.

Pekka had some interesting comments about permissions recently. See the 4th post in this thread: Image sharing rules...

I posted the following reply to the linked comment:

TRhoads wrote in post #19285076 (external link)
This is gonna sound like an odd question...and who knows maybe no one will respond.

Rule #5 reads: You agree to post only content that you have copyright for, or with written permission from the copyright owner.

What does that mean to you? Does it mean that it needs to be your image...does it mean you can post images that you have bought the copyright to...does it mean you can post images that were part of a turorial and you put your edit on them?

And on that last one...how do you feel about someone posting images that came from a tutorial...that they put their spin on? Is that kosher?

Generally speaking, yes, it's kosher. The rules of this forum are stricter than what the law in most countries allows under the doctrine of Fair Use. In U.S. copyright law it goes like this:

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. (emphasis added)

So the rule requiring that either you be the copyright owner or have written permission from the owner, that's a bit stricter than is necessary. Returning to your question: If you posted an image from a tutorial and put your spin on it to illustrate something (maybe to demonstrate an editing technique), that would be an educational use of the image and would come under Fair Use. The rules of this forum don't recognize fair use, which is sort of sad, because it rules out a lot of useful (educational) sharing of information.

Thanks folks - and thanks Stiga (and 'Peano) for the timely link and comments. Wrinkle here is that the purpose of this thread is to take raw images you don't own and post them again (here) after manipulation. I would hold that posting my raw images here for that purpose does constitute "written permission from the copyright owner." But what about those subsequently manipulated images - with new lighthouses or ships under sail? And of course POTN crosses many copyright jurisdictions, though suspect pretty well all are Berne Convention contracting parties.

Linking to the thread or even hot-linking to the images (as Pekka suggests for a tutorial-type deal) would be the easy way to share, but each person viewing would need to become a POTN member to see them. Other option would to do a series of screen caps to get the text/context, or else save each post from the thread - the *.duck.jepg versions. Other suggestions welcomed - please. May refer the situation to Pekka.

I don't think it's an issue. But if you're worried about it, just ask those people to post their permission (as I did on mine).

Contributing a few of my own. I saw when I started working with them in more detail that I could have left out a couple of frames because of excessive overlap.

This one: Created a four image pano, in ICE (transverse Mercator looked best to me for those); to Aurora, using the "warm landscape" pre-set at 75% + a few other slight slider adjustments there; then to Luminar AI for the new sky (one of my own), a bit of scene re-lighting, added the sun through clouds with a few rays (positioned to match the shadow directions), removed nearest car on the road for more of a town asleep feel; last, through Topaz Sharpen.

Three image stitch in ICE; Luminar 4 for slight adjustments and fairly tight crop - minimizing human content to the left of above image; Topaz Sharpen, to sharpen things up (it did a nice job on the good old 24-105 lens).

Last one. Same 3 images as above but without the crop to the left. Luminar 4 for some light and colour, then to Luminar Ai for a different sky from my stockpile. slight relighting, then a final run through Aurora to brighten some shadows in the cliffs.

One of the reasons for replacing the sky in this one was odd artifacts / patterns in the original - probably from the stitching?

Good to see your interpretation. With such a large set, interpretations are endless

Interesting that you use the free MS ICE. I am using it more and more and like it better than PS. Pity it won't remember your preferred image type when saving though.

P.S. I see that Hugin is highly recommended and a couple of review articles; has anyone used it?
