I want to start a "Telephoto Lenses Awareness Program" - since I see virtually everyone with the same wide angle/medium lenses.... I don't get it... One can get just as good or BETTER shots using some basics of compression, and it's fun to not have to be trapped among the masses for shots.

For example, rather than drive all the way to the Fiery Furnace or Devils Garden, you "can" get perfectly acceptable shots anywhere from the windows to panorama point to even just above the turnoff on Delicate Arch or this area:

Same story, you can pickout Delicate Arch from Panorama Point, or the Windows, and many other areas within the park, again... by avoiding the masses/grid lock/zoo/disneyland crowds:

Thanks! Forgot about that one..

Context: I just don't see many telephotos in national parks where I live... I'm lost as to why? I couldn't imagine being focal length limited...

Lenses get tagged with names. There are portrait lenses and there are landscape lenses. Names affect how folks perceive stuff. Want to do a landscape? Well then, use a landscape lens.

I too like using telephoto lenses for landscapes. You do have to watch out for atmospheric issues though.

Of course we can use any focal length we want for landscapes.

Nice work!!! These guys used to swoop super low level over Hillsboro back in 1988... I'll never forget the first time our whole house shook!! Up on the roof we all went to watch in amazement...

I think since then they have a different flight path and nolonger go over South Hillsboro especially on those high speed low level runs...
