I used the built-in Focus Stacking feature in the R5 (tripod mounted) to grab a series of "slices" of this wild Eastern Water Dragon at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens in Brisbane.

What was really cool is that the R5 rattled off the shots very quickly, helping minimise the risk of the reptile moving between frames which might cause mis-alignment issues in the stacking process. On the rear LCD, you could see the File Number changing in the top left hand corner which was the only indication that is was shooting the set.

No problems focus stacking with the RF 100-500, worked like a charm.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

Northern water dragon aka ta-ta lizard, Gowidon temporalis, on my gatepost when I got home just now. They're common in Darwin and the Top End, and are called ta-ta lizards due to their habit of waving one 'hand' when they stop after running.

Another species of ta-ta lizard: Diporiphora bilineata, two-lined dragon.

Top End firetail skink, Morethia storri, in a shallow pit at the abandoned tin mine at Maganbah in Litchfield National Park. They are about 38 mm/1 1/2" long not counting their brightly coloured tails, which they wave seductively, presumably to attract would-be predators to that end of them (which can regrow if detached) rather than the business end.

An enlightening photo of something most people will never see!

That bulge near the left end of each mark–is it from something the critter ate?

No, those are marks left by the snake's head and tail. I believe the head was to the right and the tail was to the left, but I could have that backwards.

Tim's post above reminded me of the following.

Few years ago I encountered a snake in my workshop.
We eyeballed each other then it disappeared under the machinery.
Too much timber and machinery to go looking so shut the door and left it to its own.
It cleaned up the resident skinks and knocked things off shelves, then enough was enough.
I laid a sand bed outside door and left it open.
Came back later and very relieved to see these.
Obviously possums had visited too

I hoped the snake did an exit and it wasn't its mate coming looking for lost lover.
I asked about and was told this :-)
He has left a berm of sand on the left hand side of his travel, see the middle of the photograph. This is his power point moving forward, I think he is gone.

Beautiful photos. Love seeing things like this.
I'm no expert but judging on comment made about mine I can only assume this is moving from left to right in your photo which is what you suspect
