Minimal involvement by me on this one. Loaded into Aurora and chose Bright Landscape @ 100%. And made sea level level, which resulted in a slight crop

So for more involvement - for both these versions, processed through Aurora ("Natural") and straightened first. Then Luminar Ai: erased the people and groomed the beach, then selected the two different skies (my own), then played with sky sliders (Global, Gaps, Details, Water Blur, Reflections).

As a former geologist, the Grand Canyon image interests me most but I have been struggling with it for a long time. I tried some Luminar presets but was not happey with any of them - nor were cloud replacements The dirt was the least of my problems; here is my first attempt using my standard workglow which yielded a pretty bland result

1. SNS-HDR
2. Tweaks + dodging in Photoshop

My second attempt was a bit more successful even though it is a bit OTT!
1a. Aurora - best result for canyon
1b. Aurora - best result for sky
2. PS using 1a and 1b as separate layers > align layers > blend layers > remove some dirt > dodge and burn

A minimalist/sketchy approach . . .

As usual, I'm not competing, just horsing around.

New Challenge (19 Oct 2021)

In the interest of variety and options, I have several choices this week, and the sets are available in native Canon .CR3 (nCR3 to be exact) and .DNG

The same sets of images are in both formats. They are

1. Moon and Tower (multiple set at bracketed exposures; extra challenge in this set are fast moving clouds and a slowly rising moon)
2. Misty Harbour at night (multiple at different exposures - mist over the harbour)
3. Various single shots of birds that need a bit of help.

Also a bonus very nearly full moon (bracketed) taken tonight - in the top level directory.

(First two sets taken with the nifty thrifty 50, which I hadn't used in ages. Still a nice bit of kit for small cash.)

CR3 set: https://www.dropbox.com …yylroCJyFQ3SKRKlSXTa?dl=0 (external link)

DNG set: https://www.dropbox.com …UXz06O_LPj3uexajTiGa?dl=0 (external link)

Let me know any download problems.

Have Fun
- Rob

The Standard Rules:

Download the image file from the current week

Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (1 entry per week)

The owner of the original image will choose a winner

The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

Wow, Rob, that's a big bundle! I downloaded all the CR3s and fed them to DxO PL4 to denoise and lens correct; exported as DNGs. That's my standard workflow.

Here's my shot at the Moon and Tower.
1. Aurora
2. Luminar to replace the sky. N.B. some of the original sky remains
3. Dodge and burn in PS

Message to self: Moon a bit too big, or is it?

Question, my collection of sky and clouds in Luminar AU is now HUGE and unwieldy; how van I prune it?

Martin you can create a folder out in your files and keep all your assets there, example: skys, moons, clouds, blue skys, aurora, etc, etc. . You can pull from your assets folder when needed instead of loading all into LAI
L AI will run faster that way....... Skylum recommends that......

Main Folder >>> L AI Assets
subfolders in Assets
skys,
moons,
clouds,
blue skys,
aurora,

Many thanks for that.

But how can I get rid of a all the rubbish that I have added by using the + button at the bottom below all the sky thumbnails?

Sorry, never been in the situation, so I dont know the process, however since you own L AI contact Skylum support to help you walk through the process.

Post your findings so others who may be in the same situation will learn the process.

Martin - Good question. Think you already answered it though. So doesn't seem to be a way to "un +" a sky except by moving from your custom sky folder.

Page is for Mac but works for me on a PC (Note the page heading should have been "Delete custom skies" not "elete custom skies"!)
