I once asked a photography friend where he finds his water abstract images, he told me that the trick was not to look for them. I now understand what he meant. I was not intentionally looking for these water reflections but there they were along a river on a hike this morning (10/22/21).

Blue sky reflected in water with a sprinkling of trees with some late fall color.

FE 100-400 GM

That is so cool. They are hard to spot and find, and shutter speed varies so much with what looks good. I also figured out that shooting MF helps, rolling focus changes the look a lot from near to far, you can get some cool patterns.

First edit from the trip this week. Found a new spot in the park, happens every time I go. It felt like being a rookie again, trying to learn the new camera, things are in different places, menus are all different, so it was good to get to spend a few days focusing on photography. I am really happy with this thing...

Nicely captured Travis. How was the fall color? Do you still have your a7RII and a9? How do you like the dynamic range of the a1?

Fantastic ICM! I enjoy photographing them because of the unpredictable results.

Thank you! Yes they are hard to spot in the field. Best thing to do is experiment and take lots of shots.

Parts of the park were at peak, some will be this week and some are probably 10 days out. We had clear blue skies the while trip until we were leaving. Which is good and bad. We just did some exploring, driving around. I had a cool off road 4Runner for the week, so we could go places that I normally can't in my car.

Yes, it is always interesting. My issue has always been getting them smooth, I don't like wiggly...so the Syrp really helps.

If I didn't shoot a lot of them this week, my image count would have been half what it was!

Didn't have to travel far to get this sly guy. He was in my front yard! Not often I get a good wildlife shot with the 24-105.

I realized I failed to reply to the second half...my apologies.

I still have the a7r2, a9 and a7iii...I need to sell off the a7iii, after this week, it won't get used anymore, the video is so good out of the a1. But since I have been on the road a lot the last 3 weeks, I have not listed it, didn't want someone to want it and me not be able to get it sent out. Sadly, I should have gotten it done before the a74 came out. Oh well.

After this week, I think I would ideally get rid of everything else, and get another a1, so that everything is filmed and shot on the same body, but not have to switch back and forth. I could have one set up for both functions.

DR is as good as the r2, which I am happy about. The files hold up to push/pull nicely. I have not gotten too heavy into editing landscapes yet, the one I posted of the stream was a single frame.

Still not much colour around here just yet. Think we need a colder spell to give it a good kick start!

Wow, what a gorgeous red fox! We have gray foxes running through our yard, but only under the cover of night, so all I get to enjoy are their beautiful silhouettes streaking through the moonlight and street light.

Beautiful fox. I saw one like this right outside our house. I went to grab my camera and 100-400 but it ran off.

Sounds great Travis. Thank you for the confirmation on DR performance. Dual a1 cameras is one amazing setup.

DXO rates the a1 DR at 14.5 stops and the a7R II at 13.9 stops. The a7R II was a bit of an low-point anomaly in the a7R series as it was the only one that has ever tested below 14 stops. The a7R IV has 14.8 stops.

The fact that Sony engineered a camera that hits a 14.5 stop DR at 50MP while being a top-of-the-line action camera is an absolute mindblowing feat.
