Love the bokeh in your shots! I can get somewhat similar using the 50/1.4 but not quite as nice. I've done composites to practice but it doesn't look quite right like a SOOC capture. May have to play more with the light placement.

Thank you :) it’s all about being as close to your subject as you can then having your background lights as far from the subject as you can!

I don’t always do it but for this image, it’s actually a panorama of around 15-20 images then I cropped it to a 4x5 ratio. I could have done the same composed shot with just 1 image but I wanted to take all images at MFD to maximize the size of the bokeh balls. I bought a macro focus rail which made it a lot easier to shoot this.

Definitely more practice needed for me. I've been working on doing composites with the bokeh lights shot at f1.4 then a focus stack of the main subject. No samples as my masking needs much work on the fine details.

My focus rail is similar to that although that one looks well made, mine is really cheap haha. For the bokeh composites, have you tried a lighten blend mode in PS then adding a mask to paint in the bokeh you want?

Appreciate the tip! I'm running On1 Raw which AFAIK does not have an automated exposure match mode. I do a manual exposure match by bumping whatever base exposure so they blend. It sounds complicated though isn't really. My main issue is getting a good feather. Will keep working on this. ;-)a

You're welcome and yeah I've never used On1 before but I imagine that makes it a bit more tricky to do stuff like this without masks and layers like in PS.

Wonderful! Really well done, I love the background - just that hint of texture makes it look so painterly.
