Have you checked Affinity Photo?

I bought it recently as my PS CS5 is getting a tad old.

There are lots of raw processors. if you want ACR specifically, you'll need Photoshop or Lightroom, which is to say both, as the subscription includes both.

If you look at Adobe's financial reports, it looks like their current model is working quite well for them.

Found an interesting article here : https://www.photoshopessentials.com …w-in-bridge-vs-photoshop/ (external link)

It shows that ACR can also be hosted by Bridge without needing Photoshop :

Camera Raw offers such a complete image editing environment that it's entirely possible to do everything you need to do with your photo in Camera Raw without ever needing to open it in Photoshop for further editing. That's why Adobe gave us the ability not only to select our images in Bridge but also to open and process them in Camera Raw without leaving Bridge, and without needing to open Photoshop. In other words, Camera Raw is perfectly capable of running in Bridge itself, or another way to put it, Camera Raw can be "hosted" by Bridge, just like it can be hosted by Photoshop. It doesn't need Photoshop running in the background, and that means Photoshop won't be hogging any of your computer's resources for no reason.

So I have a request to Adobe if someone working at Adobe is reading this message : since Bridge is free, please Adobe allow us to buy ACR and run it inside Bridge without needing to subscribe to Photoshop.

Yes, that would be great!

Adobe Bridge, and Adobe Lightroom use the same Camera Raw processing engine. Adobe Camera Raw is what you pay for to process your raw files versus purchasing other applications. If it was free, I'm sure Lightroom users would jump ship and just use ACR and Bridge. They would lose some cataloging features but processing images would be almost the same and cost nothing.

I never asked to make Camera Raw free. I'm just asking to have the possibility to buy it as a standalone product without having to purchase a monthly subscription for something I don't need (Photoshop or LR). LR has database and cataloging features that I don't need and photoshop has advanced capabilities I don't need.

Furthermore, I'm just taking pictures from time to time and I would like to be able to process them with ACR. So why should I pay a monthly subscription for something I just use from time to time and for extra features I don't use at all ?

Sorry, I missed the "want to purchase" part of your post. However, my point is that with ACR and Lightroom being basically the same Raw converter, I can't see any benefit for Adobe to modify their software option.

Comcast charges me monthly for hundreds of stations I don’t need……
Wait a minute, iON TV has Blue Bloods Marathon on Wednesday? YES!
I was a hold out on the subscription plan for a few years thinking I didn’t need all that. But when you are paying for the subscription we tend to dive in a bit more than we actually anticipated and find features to use and more importantly software updates included.
We have all wanted a Stand alone Lightroom option to purchase as well.
I was in your camp a few years back.

As you gave an example with your TV provider, I can give you an example with my phone provider.
He proposes differents subscriptions plans depending on the amount of Data I need :
20Gigas -> 5€
100 Gigas ->20€
etc.

So Why should I pay 20€ if I need only 20 Gigas ?
Why should I pay a subscription for Photoshop if I need only ACR ?

Anyhow, I thought that Adobe would be interested in having new clients which are ready to pay for a perpetual licence for a small part of their product, knowing that those clients will never go for a subscription plan.
But if Adobe thinks that by offering a perpetual licence for their ACR plugin, they risk to lose more "subscription" clients than win new "perpetual" clients, then never mind, I'll stay with DPP or look for other software which propose perpetual licence. That's all.

I’m missing something. If you only need 20GB then get that. Why would you get 1TB for 20€ if you don’t need it?

Just download it. I'll have a look at it. Thanks.

If you don’t like Adobe you may not like this. I purchased DXO PL3 in the fall of 2019. The R5 came out in August of 2020. Both Adobe and C1 Pro came out with RAW support in 6 weeks. DXO held out until November and I would have had to pay to upgrade to PL4 to use it.

So I only got 9 months out of PL3. If DXO had of released RAW support in a timely manner or at least updated RAW support I could have still been using it today. I realize that that I wouldn’t have DeepPrime but I would have had the choice to upgrade or not.

There are only a few programs that aren't on an annual upgrade system these days. You lose support every fall for most of them.

This was probably mentioned. Why not covert to DNG? I really wish you luck on trying to get ACR as a standalone. Even if it was my guess it would also be a on a annual upgrade as well. New camera released after the fall upgrade, no support. No additional features either.

If you get enough signatures and convince Adobe to make ACR a standalone plugin I'll nominate you for Time's person of the year.

12-Month Subscription for $99. Even w/o the discount I think its a bargain. But then again I've been a Ps user since the early 90s.

It’s an analogy. And what you are missing is the point TS is trying to make.

Converting to DNG? And then what? You still won’t be able to do basic tweaks in ACR without Lightroom or Photoshop.

I signed the petition but there is no way Adobe will ever do this, even if a gazillion people would sign.
