This afternoon I found a very large Stick Insect outside our veranda, it is at least 30 cm long, one leg looks broken and one is missing. Probably an older one. The second photo is her/his head, the eye is good to see.

What a magnificent insect.
Never seen one anywhere near that size.
You've certainly got some detail in the second shot.

Thanks Richard, we were very surprised too. We didn't see him today, he's back to the tree I guess.

Late season Red Wasp and Wheel Bug. Just iPhone shots, didn’t have a camera when I saw them.

Very interesting and nicely captured.

I gather it moves along the twig and deposits as it goes.
Fascinating how they lay them right around the twig.

Anyone ever play with a Raynox DCR-250 (purchased back then for $45) to do "super-macro"? These are on everyday blades of grass that you would find in your yard. The key is having a solidly mounted slide rail. I was using a Canon P&S S5-IS with adapter rings to mount the DCR-250 on the camera rigid. Once focus is achieved the zoom multiplies the size while maintaining focus. Focus stacking comes in handy with it. The stilt-fly should take up shaving.
