An odd photo ... to which I gave an odd interpretation. Not competing, just being odd.

Wouldn't making a virtual copy of the image in PhotoLab, applying the Cappuccino preset to the VC, and then selectively copying the edits from the Master copy to the virtual copy resolve that issue?

Sure, that would work just fine. You could also just export a TIFF or DNG with the previous work applied and then apply the preset to that inside of PL5. I just kind of like the FP6 interface and all of the information it contains about the inspiration for each preset.

I thought I'd let Christmas turkeys settle before I deliberated - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.

I was looking for a different take from what my own edit looked like so Peano's version, I liked a lot. The simplification helps the model stand out well. I also liked Mark's because it was like mine, but the eyes have it - Mozes' first edit is the winner this week. Thanks to everyone and over to you Mozes. In second place was Mark's second edit.

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:
  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (1 entry per week)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, NEF etc
(Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

Thx NigelD

Lets see what you all can do with this one....

Relaxing with a friend. PL5: NR and optical corrections, adjusted selective tone and contrast, lowered overall contrast slightly=>AP: replace background.

Apologies for my tardiness, festivities plus a roll-back from Windows 11 to version 10 have got in the way. The roll-back was easy but left me with a tidy up

A.
1. DxO PL4 > expoty as DNg
2. SNS-HDR
3. Photoshop > remove metal structure and blemishes

Thanks Mozes. Here is this week's new challenge:

Before and After - The Weekly Editing Challenge
...now compiled into a single, easy to locate thread, that can be added to your subscribe/follow list!

Rules are simple:

  • Download the image file from the current week

  • Contestants will have 7 days to edit the image and post their edited version to the thread (as many entries as you like)

  • The owner of the original image will choose a winner

  • The winner will copy & paste this post and include a new downloadable image link

  • The new image must be unedited / SOOC (straight our of camera), full-resolution, and in a RAW format, ie. CR2, DNG, TIF, etc

  • (Dropbox works well for uploading and linking these large files)

The purpose of this game is to be creative and learn new editing techniques. You must give some insight into exactly how you went about editing the image. For example, increased shadows sliders, reduced highlights, local sharpening, white balance adjustment, specific filters used, tone curve adjustments, etc. Comments and/or questions regarding the edits are encouraged.

Here are a couple more RAWs from Martin's free website. HERE (external link) is the link to the zipped file. I picked these two files(one portrait and one landscape) because some like to work on portraits, others prefer landscapes. IMO these RAWs need A LOT of work: The portrait is of a beautiful model in a nice pose but with horrible lighting and a really poor background and gives the editor ample opportunity to show-off their skills at improving portrait lighting and replacing or improving backgrounds. The landscape is just plain dull and could use some judicious cropping and some added "POP".

Choose your file(or both) and let's see what you can do. This time I promise to not bias my choice of the winner to the portrait.

SOOC:

Mark, is this the idea you had in mind when you picked the images? No doubt others could do a better composite than I can!

Workflow, DxO and them PS/ACR

Great job Martin. TBH, I didn't even think about combining the two entries. I was just thinking of replacing the background, maybe with a studio backdrop or some scene other than the awful one in the RAW. You accomplished that task very nicely and the landscape entry is perfectly valid as a background. You killed two birds with but a single stone!
