Thanks, Rob. I had a couple that stuck out in my mind and had to do a preview beyond those.

I started out liking the Bird Portrait thread but now utterly dislike it as it has become a dumping ground. I hardly ever post in it now.

Anyway, I didn’t shoot much this year but I have some images I’m quite pleased with. I need my Mac to go through this year’s collection and will look tomorrow. For now here are two favourites from my gallery, a Great crested grebe.

And a Grey heron shot that I like. The RF800/11 worked well here I think.

I really haven't done a whole lot of bird photography over the years, but started doing a lot more over this past year. It really is a difficult skill to learn and execute (well, at least for me). Here are two of my favorites from this year. I'll post two more later.

Turkey Vulture in flight. Usually, they keep their distance, so getting a good image in flight was a real prize for me!

Great Blue Heron. I know these get to be run-of-the-mill for most bird photograhers, and they all start to look the same. This one is one of my favorites though... the wind was blowing, so the flyaways on the crown were cool, and i just liked the look of this one overall.

"naturally" :-) Superb Fairy Wrens feature high on my list, but not totally.
Two family of young ones proved highlight of year.

All wonderful, but that first one is superb! Great colors and the composition is phenomenal!

I'm going with these, but picking four was hard.

Agree with everyone else that picking 4 images is hard... maybe it's more of the personal connection between the photographer and the image... dates, places, circumstances all play a part in what we see in our own images beyond the merits and aesthetics that others look at. That being said, these are my final two choices from this year...

Red Tailed Hawk - for me, I love the close-up view, detail and the aggressive look. It was also the first time (and one of the very few times) one was perched so close that I could shoot this kind of closeup, so there's that personal bias :)

Osprey in flight. Birds in flight are difficult for me in general... still working on that skill. I chose this not just because it was caught in flight, but also because it's not the typical bird in flight position/profile I tend to see; I love the position and curvature of the wings and the untucked legs/talons.
