Thank you and yes, the window was behind me although it was right after sunset and we don’t ever get any direct light shining in!

A couple handheld from the Bellingrath Gardens Christmas lights display near Mobile, Alabama. The lens IS/IBIS is a game changer for me. I'm notoriously shaky. But I'm not giving up my coffee...

I upgraded from an R to an R6 back in October. After 9 days of customizing controls and getting to know the camera, it started failing at random. The display would freeze up, and then go black and show “err 70”. After that the only solution was to turn off the camera and pull out the battery. When reinserted the camera would sometimes work again, but at other times I had to switch to a new battery.
Luckily, as I had contacted the authorized seller, Within the first two weeks, Canon replaced it for free. The new camera does not seem to suffer from the issue the first camera had.

The R6 is such a nice camera. The eye tracking works really, really well and tracking BIF with the Tamron 150-60pmm G2 is so much easier than with the R.
Granted, the resolution is noticeably lower than the R when cropping, but to be honest, the cropped files still appear to be “popping” more than on the R. And when using Topaz DeNoise/Sharpen/Gigapixel it leaves me with images that are nice and sharp.

I have tracked birds, foxes, dogs, kids a similar beasts with a consistency that has been everything I wished I would get when I bought the R.

When taking pictures in the dark the noise is really well controlled. More pleasing than the R, actually much like the good old 6D.

My first pictures with the R6! It was a terribly foggy morning, but I had to shoot something! Before, and after. The R6 gave me a lot of wiggle room to bring this guy out of the fog!

Hi Laura, I meant to ask shortly after you posted this, but other things got in the way. That was a great recovery! Could you please tell me what software you used, and a (very) brief outline of the steps you took? I have a few I'd like to have a go at....

Thanks in advance!

Mottled Duck, a MEGA rarity in Maryland. Shot with the 800 f11...still surprises me how well that lens performs even in low light.

Nice find, Steve! Doesn't seem easy to distinguish from a female mallard. The bill is very different though. But then, drakes in winter can look very similar and they have yellow bills. A lot of words to say: well spotted! :-P

I agree on the 800/11. I too have been surprised by the clarity of shots taken in low light that I expected to be complete rubbish. It's an amazing lens really.

Thank you! Here's what I did in a nutshell...

Big dehaze in Lightroom, which introduced noise. Then took it into Photoshop did levels and saturation adjustments. Finally, ran it through Topaz Denoise AI. I'm rather pleased I was able to bring him out of the fog as well as I did.

Thanks so much, Levina! You're spot on. If it weren't for the serious birders ogling the bird I would have taken it as a female Mallard and walked by. It is the first reported and confirmed Mottled in Maryland.

As for the 800, I never hesitate to use it for rarities, so my trust level is high (though I'm still surprised at times :-) ).
