Sony Lounge Thread MKIII (All Sony cameras welcome)

My frustration with the micro USB port has led me to buy the Bluetooth Sony remote. For what it is, I think it is overpriced, It should have an intervalometer built in, for timed exposures, but I will live with it. After some minor frustration setting it up, it works well. Sony shoots themselves in the foot when their menus change so much, they write instructions for something that later doesn't match the camera menu system...so for anyone with an A1 that buys one, you have to turn the remote control function on, and it is NOT in the Bluetooth menu, it is in the Network>Transfer/Remote menu.

I had the same problem initially when setting it up, the included instructions are clearly not for the A1 but in the end with a bit of searching I was able to find the necessary menu items to enable it. I also think it's a bit overpriced for what it is when you compare it some of the aftermarket stuff but I'm willing to pay the extra for the compatibility assurance that comes with it.

Have you tried the imaging edge app? I did use it once with the A9 for shutter release. bit finicky to connect at first but that maybe my ignorance in use. Haven’t tried with the A1 yet.

I think they’re all sort of fiddly.

Just recall it was two settings needed, have paired it with four separate cameras. One thing to note is that the A1 seems to connect extremely fast to the phone, unlike other cameras, I thought it was totally usable instead of an external remote.
A7iv is probably the most intuitive, after initial pairing, simply open app and remote shooting. Doesn’t seem as fast as the A1 though.

Alfredo, just got around to reading your blog, very enjoyable and very nice images too. When you said "What I discovered was that my photography up to that point was “results driven”, meaning if conditions for sunrise after a long hike did not manifest in “epic light”, I felt disappointed." it couldn't have resonated more with me. I feel like Im always trying to nail that "money shot" and missing other photo opportunities as I dismiss them if the weather/light isn't playing ball. This coming year I'm going to focus on getting out to shoot more in the first instance and then seeing what I can capture beyond the epic as I feel that will allow me to get the bug back as I have lost it a bit through lack of motivation. Eddie, thanks so much! I am thrilled that the blog post resonated with you. I was super guilty of chasing that epic light and feeling disappointed too when things didn't line up as expected. I'll admit I was influenced by what was popular on Instagram with people always posting their epic light shots. It was all too much. I am glad I took a break from it all and recalibrated what I wanted out my photography and creativity. I wish you success when you go out to explore. Be curious and let's see what happens.

I may have to write a short blog post about my experience photographing without a tripod. Still waiting on my RRS L bracket.

I have that remote too, I like the fact you can activate eye af with it too

I need to figure out the custom function. I don't see using it where I would need eye AF. I just like using a remote when out shooting.

The A1 works great with Imaging Edge, Ijust don't want to use my phone as the remote...for many reasons. Too fiddly, reconnecting every time, just too much trouble.

Hey Travis, yeah the eye AF by remote is probably a niche use case. I basically bought the remote to assist with my yearly Father’s Day photo at that big tree stump I go to each year. It allows me to nail focus when it’s just me and the kids there with the camera on the tripod. Saves me faffing about with manual focus and pre-focussing

He is traveling a bit in retirement plus his internet isn't what is used to be with his relocation to the mountains. He's good.

Yes, I do still use the Voigtlander 40/1.2!!
