Hi All,
I’m having equipment problems in photographing playing cards. I’m using a Slik Pro 700DX tripod with the 700DX 3-way pan-and-tilt head and a Canon 100mm macro on a 6Ts Rebel. When I take horizontal pics, all is fine. But when I turn the camera in a vertical position, the round quick release platform on the pan head rotates causing the lens/body to sag. Yes, I know I can just take horizontal pics but I feel that equipment should allow me to do as I please.

Would appreciate any solutions.

Thanks in advance.

If you use an Arca-compatible QR system, you can buy L-brackets which permit you to mount the camera in Portrait orientation without depending upon any head movements to turn the camera onto its side.

Thanks Wilt. I just found this tutorial "Tighten Quick Release Mechanism on Slik 700DX Head" on Youtube. Tried it and it works. I was able to tighten it enough so now no sag. Thanks again for your tip. If this tutorial hadn't solved the issue, I would have used the L Bracket as you suggested.

Louis.
Glad you found the tutorial.
I have a couple of the SLIK 700 DX with the 3-Way heads for many years, one in each house. Tanks. Although I have others for other purposes, Work, Travel, Wildlife, the SLIK is a heavy, but stable, dependable product. It’s a beast.
One of the best “Bang for Your Bucks” in Photography.
Will go and check the SLIK later today.
Thanks for the reminder guys and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
