the 4k 120hz is so nice when watching videos :)
camera is decent but not mind blowing. It does good with food shots though hehe.

Food pics like this really make me miss Las Vegas. Those fries, that burger---awesome!

To me, this is a nice homage to NavyDoc even though that wasn't the post's purpose. I was usually either hungry or thirsty after seeing his pics.

Holidays and a death in the family has kept me away for a bit.

Finally went outside and tried the new Sony 100-400mm lens. First impression after looking at the pictures is that the lens was a waste of money. Then after calming down I realize the lens is fine it's just me and remembering that I have never had a lens over 200mm. Guess there is a learning curve for longer lenses, as the pictures I took a 100mm look just fine but 400mm, well it back to school for me. Here the best I could get out of forty shots.

Hmmmm is it a new lens? I dont have visible variation from 100 to 400 I cant tell on my computer much from your photo but if its new I would do some more tests and if you cant figure it out ask for a replacement.

Brand new out to the box. Seem to do well indoors at both 100mm portrait and a 400mm nose hair shot (couldn't get far enough away indoors), so I'm hopping it's just me. Will try using a tri-pod next time out and if that doesn't help I will take to a camera shop. Or maybe fine someone who knows more than me and let them try the lens.

I don't have your gear but when I bought my 100-400 (m4 thirds) I wasn't impressed. However I knew how it performed from others.
I persevered. Tried tripod, but didn't want that as I'm a "hand holder", and now I'm comfortable knowing the limitations of the gear, conditions and my own.
May take several futile attempts but I'd encourage persevere and take note of what you're doing, how you're holding it etc.

Is the EXIF correct? Was that at 400mm?
The duck is moving so 1/200 sec is not fast enough.
Good results will need 1/500 sec or faster.

Sorry to hear.

Both great shots. What's the 2022 bird?

Was wondering that too. Thought at first it was an Osprey but don’t think the black bits under the wings are big enough for it to be one

Edit - I’m terrible at ID’ing birds though so could literally be anything :-P

Yes, the EXIF data is correct. I would have thought 1/200 would have been fast enough but guess not. Live, learn and practice a lot, better get out there and shoot more Ducks (with the camera). :)
Thanks all for the suggestions,
Craig
